Direct answers
- What is technological innovation?
- Technological innovation is a new or better way to do a job — using tools, process, or both — that a real user keeps using. A patent, a demo, or a slide that says “AI” is not innovation until the job is different on a normal Tuesday.
- What is the difference between invention and innovation?
- Invention is a new thing. Innovation is a new thing people actually use. You can invent in a notebook. You only innovate when the old way loses on Friday.
- How do companies find innovation opportunities?
- Start with friction: work that takes hours when it should take minutes, a workaround that became the job, systems that do not talk. Name the job and the unknown. Then test. Do not start with a tool roundup and hunt for a problem.
- Should we hire an innovation agency or a consulting firm?
- Hire a consulting firm if you want a report. Hire an innovation agency if you want a prototype someone can fail, then a system the company owns. SINLE Innovation Agency ships the second. Workshops without a kill date are the first in nicer clothes.
- What is product innovation consulting?
- Help deciding whether a new product or service is worth building. You should leave with a plain page: what you are selling, who can say no, what changes for them, and when you will stop. Then someone builds a version they can try, and you own the code. A slide deck alone is a report.
- What is productivity innovation consulting?
- Help making one job inside the company take less time. Time last week before you buy a tool. It worked if the hours moved and people kept the new way. A new screen with the same steps is not a gain.
- What does an innovation agency actually do?
- Name the stuck job, run a test a user can fail, then ship software or an agent with a human lock — owned by you, scoped in writing, billed in USD. Not a workshop and not a brochure.
- What does an innovation studio actually ship?
- A stuck job, named. A test a user can fail. Then production software, an agent with a human lock, or a product the company can keep — scoped in writing, billed in USD, yours on final payment. Not a deck of “next steps.”
- How much does innovation work cost?
- Spark is $750 to say what we would invent and what we would not. Pilot is $3,500 for one job live. Invent is $10–25k for the core build. Pod is the $3,000/mo retainer after Invent. Nothing is charged before a written scope.
- What is research and development (R&D)?
- Creative, systematic work on a real unknown — then a change people keep using. A lab, a patent, or a backlog in a nicer shirt is not R&D until the outcome is still uncertain and what you learn can be used again.
- What is an R&D team?
- A research and development team that attacks a real unknown in a job, then leaves a change people keep using. Research finds why the work hurts. Development puts the change where the work already happens. A lab that never leaves the room has not innovated yet.
- What is the difference between R&D and product development?
- R&D is the stretch where you still do not know if it can work, or how. Product development is the longer road once that unknown is gone. After Friday is unsurprising, you need builders — not a research label on the backlog.
- How do you build an R&D team in a small company?
- Do not hire a chief of innovation first. Name one job and the unknown. Write the kill rule. Put two or three people next to the work: the operator, a builder who can stop, someone who can say no. One bet in use or dead before you open a second.
- When does a company need research and development?
- When the same job keeps costing hours, the workaround has become normal, and you cannot honestly say you already know the fix. If a competent team could specify the work on Monday and be unsurprised by Friday, hire engineers. Do not call it R&D.
- How do you measure R&D and innovation?
- For each live bet: the job in one line, the unknown, the evidence that continues the work, the evidence that stops it. Then ask on a later Friday whether people kept the new way. Hours returned and adoption count. Patents and workshops do not.
- What is the difference between an R&D team and an innovation team?
- R&D resolves an unknown. Innovation is the change once someone uses it. An “innovation team” can be a title with no unknown and no user. An R&D team that never ships has not innovated. You need both halves, on the same job.
- How do you de-risk R&D?
- Write the unknown and the expensive ways to be wrong. Run a patent search and a thin test before you fund a prototype. Write a kill rule. Monitor new filings while the bet is live. Hire a patent attorney when money, a product name, or a country sale is on the table.
- How do you use patent search to de-risk R&D?
- Write the mechanism in plain words, search public databases with synonyms and class codes, read claims, and write a one-page note before you fund the prototype. A hit is a reason to reshape or stop. It is not a clearance letter.
- How do you use patent monitoring to de-risk R&D?
- Save the first-pass search. Watch new publications and grants for that job, monthly. Score hits as ignore, adjacent, blocking, or needs a lawyer. Act the same week as a blocking hit. Stop the watch when the bet is dead or the design is known.
- How should a small business use AI?
- Treat it as a clerk, not a strategy. Draft, tag, extract, summarise — with a human on money and sends. Start with one stuck job, not a model. If you cannot say what got faster after two weeks, you bought a demo.
- How much does it cost to hire an agency to build an AI agent?
- An agent that does a real job — intake, desk, dispatch — is scoped like software, usually in the Invent range ($10–25k) plus Pod if it has to live. A chatbot on a dead FAQ is cheaper and usually worse. Price follows the job, the lock, and what you own.
- What is agentic AI with a human lock?
- An agent that does a job in software you own, with a person required before money moves or a message sends. No unsupervised refunds, bookings the calendar does not have, or medical/legal answers. The lock is the product. The model is the clerk.
- When is AI ready for production?
- When the source of truth is yours, a person can stop it, and you can measure reopen rate — not “conversations closed.” If the site cannot take a booking and the FAQ is empty, fix that first. A model on top of a mess is a faster mess.
- When is AI the wrong tool?
- When being slightly wrong costs money, a license, a body, or a customer you cannot get back. Unsupervised refunds, diagnosis, legal answers, and invented hours are incidents. Draft, tag, extract — with a human on the send — can be right.
- Should we add AI or fix the stuck job first?
- Fix the job. Publish the answers you already type. Put the workflow in software you can keep. Then, if the hours are still real, put a clerk on that job with a kill switch. “AI transformation” without a named job is a subscription.
- What is AEO (answer engine optimization)?
- AEO is writing the questions buyers actually ask, then answering them in plain language a search engine, ChatGPT, Perplexity, or a Google AI Overview can quote. SEO gets you the click. AEO gets you the citation. Same site. Different unit of work: the question, not the keyword list.
- How is AEO different from SEO?
- SEO ranks pages for queries. AEO structures answers so an engine can extract them: a question as the heading, a complete answer in the first sentences, FAQ schema, and a page an LLM can trust. You still need crawlable pages. You also need to be quotable.
- How do we show up in Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, or Perplexity?
- Answer the buyer question on a stable URL, in your own words, with who you are and what you will not do. Use FAQPage schema. Keep facts on the page, not only in PDFs. Engines cite sources they can parse. They skip brochure adjectives.
- What buyer questions should an innovation company answer?
- What you do, what it costs, who owns the work, when AI is the wrong tool, what R&D actually is, and how you say no. Those are the queries a VP types at 11pm. Keyword stuffing “best innovation agency” is not a question anyone asks a colleague.
- Can you do AEO for our product, not just this site?
- Yes — if the product has a job, a price, and answers you are willing to put in public. We write the questions, the short answers, and the pages engines can cite, then ship them in software you own. We do not sell a monthly “AEO score.”
- Is AOE the same as AEO?
- Yes. AEO is answer engine optimization. AOE is the same acronym typed backwards. The work is identical: write the question the buyer actually asks, answer it in the first sentences, put it on a URL an engine can fetch.
